Answer 7/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

Calafornia Law for child support is up to the age of 18 and it does not matter if they go to college or not. It is up to you if you want to pay beyond the required age of 18.

Answer 8/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

Child support in california id until the child reaches the age of 18 unless the child is still a full time student in high school and then it can continue until the child turns 19 or graduates high school whichever occur's first. But iin order to continue to get child support the custodial parent has to contact the child support services that the child is still attending school full time and then the child support services then has to send out a letter to the school to verifly the information given.

Answer 9/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

Child support liability in California legally ends at 18 if the child is no longer in highschool, whether the child graduated or dropped out, or 19 if the child is a full-time highschool student and the child must live with the parent receiving support. If a child is totally disabled, support might continue. Typically, a disabled child qualifies for SSI which would mean that support would not be due in most cases. A temporary disability would not qualify. If child support is paid during college, it must be an agreement between the parents.

A child who has not graduated from highschool would receive support for the months when school is not in attendance, e.g., the summer, if the child intends to continue in highschool. The support would end on the child's 19th birthday, even if the child is in attendance.

Answer 10/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

I am sorry about the misinformed information from the above! We all no that school is not in session in the summer so of course child support would not be paid after graduation, however if the child is 18 and it is summer and the child starts his.her senior year the child support will not end for the summer, this is silly and people need to no the laws before giving legal advice, all the custodial parent has to do is contact the child support agency before the child reaches the age of 18 if that parent knows the child will be attening school the following year the prevent any stops payments for child support, the only one that can stop child support payments is the court, so as long as the custodial parent follows the guidelines the child support continues at the age of 18 if the child is going to school in the fall.

Answer 11/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

I am not misinformed since I have represented parents on both sides of this issue. All I said has come into play. A conclusionary, confusing, misspelled statement hardly qualifies someone to know what they are saying.

Answer 12/14 - Submitted 2/7/2011

For additional information to verifly this information that I stated please contact any child support services in californis, I went though with my child in Colusa California and he continued to recieve child support until he granduated. The child support services sent the school a form to fill out requestiing the school to fil the form out and return with the school letter head and the school had to state if the child was a full time student and date when graduation was to be exspectd. If the child turned the age of 19 before graduation the child support then would be stopped.
