What do I do if I received a Rejected Tax Return on a dependant SS# that lived with me all of 2009? I just received a rejection on my Federal Tax 2009 with the reason being that the social security number of my dependant son, age 4, who lived with me for the whole year of 2009 has already been submitted by another tax submission. The father of my son has probably claimed him as a dependant and my son did not reside with him at all in 2009. In fact, I have not received any child support for his two children that I have sole custody of. How can I fix this issue in the quickest and most effiecent way possible, the money is needed badly. Please help. |

I know of no "quick" way to resolve it.
You can remove the child that was previously claimed from your tax return, file for whatever refund is then available, and amend to put the child back on. The amended return could easily take three months to be processed.
The IRS also has a hotline for stolen identity, don't know if it's quite what you need ... 877-438-4338
