Question

What age can I stop paying support in MO.?

My son turned 18 last month and will graduate Hich School in 3 weeks. He has no plans to follow up in a college or tech school at this time, and actually plans on moving to AK to work as soon as he gets out of school. I recently looked @ my divorce decree and can not find any place where is states when I should stop paying child support(We originally had it in there that age 18 or out of school I would stop paying)
My questions are,
What is the age in Missouri for me to stop paying support?
Do I NEED a lawyer to get amancipated of child support?
If I DO have to keep paying support, can I make him stay in MO so I can still visit him on a regular basis?

Generally; the obligation ends when the child reaches 18 years of age or the child graduates from high school, whichever occurs later, but continues until the age of 23 if attending college with a five credit hour minimum. If your child is not going to attend college then child support will end when he graduates in three weeks, you might want to contact the child support services now so tha the child support will stop, you have to contact them.

Thank you for your reply and time.
I have already called Missouri Child Services twice and they sent out a questionaire to my former wife asking, I quess, the questions regarding future schooling and graduation date. They said the form is suppose to be sent out 3 months before the childs 18th birthday but somehow didnt. I verified the form has been sent out to my former last week. Child services also told me that "in a perfect situation" I can stop paying support after graduation in his case but I will stiill have an "open" acct..
Do I need to be worried about this?
Is this just for any upcoming schooling if he decides?
If I do or can close this acct. will that require a lawyer or can I represent myself?

Usually, all support stops when a child turns 18. this means ALL strings r cut; purse, apron, etc. now, if u go 2 court, u want an atty. never try 2 self-represent. most ppl don't know the system, & they can really mess up their own case. let the atty speak & handle things
