Two child support orders for the same child

Hi,

I have paid and fulfilled my child support obligation with the state of New York throught Nevada where I live.

The problem is my ex-wife filed a child support suit in New York in 2000 and they are now trying to get me to pay over $30,000 in arrears for a child that I paid support for and received a vacate order for.

Do I have to pay for support for a child that I already paid support for? Why is New York asking for this payment when payments for this child were sent to them through Nevada?

I am so confused and distruaght over all of this. Can you please explain to me how they can do this?

Well, no , I can't explain it. Only an attorney after reviewing all the documents and having a copy of the accounting from both states etc, is going to be able to untangle this. And since that figure puts you over the 10k required for a FEDERAL felony non support ( and 2 years in jail) you need to hire an attorney before someone gets all fired up and puts a warranrt our for you.
if you are uemployed you may qualify for legala aid
www.lsc.gov even if you aren't apply anyway so they canrefer you to a sympathetic lawyer.
This is the mess that happens when you get the same action going in two different states; nobody is watching the payments .
