Question about child support My husband is facing jail time soon if he's not working by the end of the month simply because last year his ex set him up to get arrested, and now has a felony on his record for going to jail because he wasn't able to find steady work & make his payments. Now because of the felony, he can't find work because nobody does an in depth search on his back round & just see's that he's got a felony. Once he does get a job, is there anyway after his payments are paid off in full, would my husband be able to remove this felony off his record, or is he cursed with it for his entire life? He did sign the birth certificate, so he's not able to force his ex to do a dna test (he's already tried 3 times, with no success). does anyone have any government websites with the child support law on it I can look at? |

Felony convictions can be expunged under certain circumstances and it is different depending on what state you live in as there are specific requirements for individual states. These sites might be of some help (http://www.law.cornell.edu/states/listing.html or http://www.child-support-laws-state-by-state.com/s tate-child-support.html or http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/expungement/exp ungement-state-info.html or http://www.uslawbooks.com/books/state/) but the best thing you can do is consult an attorney who specializes in child support law or expungement.
As far as the job situation, your husband should be very specific in his applications about what type of felony he was convicted of, as that can make a difference.

Thank you for those links. After I posted my question, he got a call back from one of the jobs he's waiting on, so he should have an interview this week or early next week. I'll be checking out those links today, for sure! We can't afford an attorney right now, so we've been doing research online to see what we can find about his situation.
