Is it the custodial parents responsibility to contact Child Support Services to let them know the children are fulltime students?

My step-daughters turned 18 in March. I understand that in the state of Missouri CS continues until the age of 21 if they are attending school fulltime. Is it the custodial parentÂ’s responsibility to contact Child Support Services and let them know the children are still fulltime students in HS? What happens if the custodial parent fails to contact CS? Does the state assume the child is not a fulltime student? Once child support stops can the custodial parent have it reinstated? The child support order does not state a specific age for termination of child support.

Yes, it is the custodial parent's responsibility to let them know the child is still in school. By letting them know, they can enforce the law and make sure he doesn't stop paying. If you don't contact them, they can't help you. It's just that simple.

The state will assume that the child isn't in school unless you tell them. Don't ever assume anything. Give them a call.

If you wish to have the child support reinstated, you'll have to bring the matter back to court and you'll have to give a very good reason for wanting it reinstated, like the child is in college. Remember the child support stops at age 21 in Missouri even if the child continues with they education.

The child support doesn't have to specify a certain age, it's the law.
