If the custodial parent decides to let me sign my rights away am i still responsible to pay child support or does the child have to be adopted? The situation is this. The mother of the child has moved on and got married. So have I. She decided that i\f I help her pay some of her rent to keep her house she would let me sign my rights away. If I do this, is my still responsible for child support payments or is there a form at Child support services I can sign saying she cannot reactivate the account? Its not that I dont wanna have anything to do with the child, its just I have never seen him, and I believe it would be in the best interest of the child for me not to be in and out of his life. Please answer me back. |

If you are on the birth certificate you are responsbile for a portion of the costs. The State looks the money being due to the child, not to the parent. That said, she would have to file a support order with the courts to get the State involved and to go after support. You could meet with a mediator and get a document written up stating that neither of you is seeking child support and that you give her sole full custody. Once you both agree and sign and then file that with the court. In most circumstances, the court will accept it but check with your state or the mediator to make sure your state doesn't have some law which will not allow this. Good luck.
