Establishing Paternity - State of Nebraska wont help

I recently had a new baby. The baby's father disappeared when I was 3 months pregnant, after denying that he is the father, and I havent heard from him since. I contacted child support enforcement here in Nebraska and they told me that they will not persue this case without any proof that he is the father.
I don't have proof, I don't even know where he is at.
So as long as he never admits to being the father, he will never have to pay anything?
I dont get state assistance, but the money is REAL tight right now.
He shouldn't just get away with this.
Can anyone tell me what to do now?

What about his parents?

they do have grandparent testing now, so they can tell you that way at least...

that really isnt fair when that happens, and the moms are left to tend to babies all on their own, but it happens...why not apply for state assistance, get what help you can...

I do not qualify for any kind of state assistance.

I dont know who his parents are, (I's a little ashamed to say) this was a very short "relationship".

Contact Legal Aid of Nebraska. Their site is: www.neequaljustice.org/ this is where you can find your local office. I think that they are in Omaha, Lincoln and Grand Island. I am not sure if they are in Western Nebraska. You should explain your case and that you are seeking proof of paternity. They should be able to advise you further.

For those tuning in now - and in any state - the mother of the child MUST petition the court for child support, at which point the court will seek to establish paternity. If the individual is proven to be the father, then he will be ordered to pay child support.

For those who do not where the father might now be, there are a number of ways to find him and without paying bogus websites that provide you with nothing for your troubles. I find people who wish not to be found almost daily without paying a dime. It is hard to hide these days.

I hope this helpful to anyone with a deadbeat parent. Thank you for choosing WebAnswers as your sourceā„¢.

Is the father of your child also named Torrey Brandt? Just kidding, I'm going through the exact same thing however I do get public assistance and my county attorney keeps telling me there is nothing they can do to help because the father has no told anyone or contacted me since finding out I had the child. He will not admit my son may be his son. I however called legal aid and they gave me the number for the Volunteer Lawyers Project, I called them and they sent me an application and I have to wait about 6 more weeks to find out if a lawyer will take my case. I hope this helps, if you found another alternative please let me know
