Do you have to file for child support in the state that granted custody? We live in Texas and got full custody of our granddaughter recently from the Virginia courts. The mother lives in VA and the father (our son) is stationed in FL. in the Navy. We feel that both parents need to pay child support. Since we live in Texas it is more convienient for us to file for the child support here rather than go back to VA. The mother and father are separated but neither has filed for divorce. Since the custody was decided in Virginia does the child support order have to come from there?
