Assuming "shared custody" means you're doing some kind of even time split, yes, you'd be paying child support to the other parent.

The child won't be made to live in relative comfort in your home and then in poverty in the other. Child support evens things out so that there is not such a huge disparity in the child's standard of living.

Well, I'm not sure why your ex-husband only makes $11,000. You can work full time at McDonalds and make $17,000+ per year. Your answer will depend on if your ex-husband should be earning more but is purposely choosing his part-time way of life. If your husband has a college degree and should be earning an equivalent salary, it may be possible that the court may not order any child support. I would be prepared to present documentation of your ex-spouses abilities to court to accurately determine the child support amount if any.

Based on the facts as presented, I would assume that you would be required to pay some level of child support. One of the purposes of child support is to provide the child with a lifestyle somewhat akin to what he would have enjoyed had his parents been a traditional married couple. (That's why you'll hear about millionaires having to paychild support in the 5-figure range. It doesn't cost that much to raise a child, but it reflects the kind of lifestyle the child might have enjoyed if the parents were together.)

Needless to say, there's a huge disparity in income between you and your ex-husband; you make almost 6 times as much as he does. That being the case, I can only imagine that a judge will require child support in order to somewhat balance the scales in terms of what your child will experience when staying with your ex. (In fact, I think that $11,000 is right at the poverty level for one person; with your child includedm it would be belowpoverty level.)
